Why do you love teaching yoga?
I am grateful for the opportunity to share practices that I have benefitted from in my personal life. I was drawn to these practices after studying childhood development in Graduate School & learning about how the brain & stress response systems work. Yoga & meditation provide me with a means to observe & regulate my thoughts & actions. My studies have brought me closer to knowing, understanding, & loving myself. I enjoy sharing the education that I was fortunate enough to receive, & learning from what my students have experienced as well. Yoga & meditation have helped me to discover my true nature. I hope to be helpful to others on their path as well.
What can students expect to experience in your class?
We explore meditation through the framework of the eight limbed path of ashtanga yoga. Class begins with a related dharma talk & a short reading from a sacred text. This is intended to provide an educational foundation on meditation & inspire deeper insight into yoga theory & eastern philosophy. I gently guide our group into a silent meditation, in which we practice the observation of our thoughts & emotions, just noticing. A few concentration techniques will be offered, & everyone is encouraged to do what they need to feel steady & comfortable in their seat. Following our sit, we finish class with community discussion & reflection. This class is intended to deepen our connection to our individual selves as well as one another.
What is the greatest benefit of yoga?
The greatest benefit of yoga is finding stillness & rest in the mind.
